Who we are

Our website address is: https://www.cswrld.com.

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Read our Cookies Policy.

Third-party cookies

This website uses cookies from external services, specifically Google, for the purpose of analysing website traffic (Google Analytics) and serving advertising (Google AdSense), including the collection of Google signal data and the collection of detailed location and device data for all regions. Read Google’s privacy policy and terms and conditions. You can access and delete this data on the my activity page. We keep this data for 14 months.

Some sites may also store GitHub cookies, see the GitHub Privacy Statement.

Google Ads cookies

  • Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s previous visits to that site or other sites.
  • Cookies allow Google and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visits to our website and other sites on the internet.
  • Users can opt out of personalized advertising by using the ad settings or by visiting www.aboutads.info to opt out of cookies for personalized ads that come from third-party advertising providers.

You can change or revoke your consent and cookie settings at any time using the button in the bottom right corner of all pages of our website.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website. This includes (but is not limited to) YouTube videos, and embedded code from GitHub. This site also uses fonts from the Google Fonts API.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

A QR code image is generated for users who set up two-factor authentication on this website. This image is generated using an API hosted by iThemes. As part of generating this image, your username is sent to the API. This information is not recorded. For details on their privacy policy, please refer to iThemes’ Privacy Policy.

This site is scanned for potential malware and vulnerabilities using the iThemes Site Scanner tool. We do not send personal information to the scanner, however, it could find publicly disclosed personal information (such as in comments) during the scan.

If you subscribe to our website newsletter, your email address will be stored in Jetpack and the Twilio SendGrid service from which news notification emails are sent. You can withdraw your consent to receive these at any time via the link at the bottom of each email sent, or you can contact us, and we will manually remove your email from the newsletter. Unsubscribing will remove your email address from the database.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

This site uses an external Cloudflare service to speed up web loading, security and more. For more information about Cloudflare’s data protection, see Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

Security of user account passwords

We store passwords using the modern hashing function bcrypt with cost set to 10.

Security protocols

Visitors’ IP addresses, logged-in user IDs and usernames of login attempts are conditionally logged to control malicious activity and protect the site from certain types of attacks. Examples of conditions where logging occurs include login attempts, logout requests, requests for suspicious URLs, changes to site content, and password updates. This information is retained for 60 days.
